The atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation and excitement on Friday 15th of Feb 2008 as the DIFA team said their final farewells to friends and family last Friday night.
The departure event at Twist and Shout at the Old Biscuit Mill was filled with happy faces, inspirational messages, loving hugs and some heartfelt goodbye tears ? all in the name of Love to Africa.
The six adventurers were all smiles as the realisation of their imminent expedition set in.
After the warm and encouraging words from Mrs Khanyisa Balfour, Manager of Corporate Social Investment Engen Petrolium SA, Peter Shrimpton from the Heart of Healing ended off with a beautiful, motivational message for the team.
The party then warmed up with a huge complimentary delivery of delicious Butler?s pizzas and from there it was time to boogy, chat and be merry to the beats of the funky djs, one last time.
A massive thank you to everyone who came to share this special time with the team and enormous gratitude to ENGEN, Twist and Shout, Butler?s pizza and all the djs for their incredible contributions.
Now for the road and the reality of a beautiful campaign.
On Friday 8th of February saw Jamming for Africa go off in Zula Bar, Cape Town. This was the last fundraising event by team DIFA. Now for the road...
This is what they had to say...
It was a night of song, dance and celebration of life!
Our desire was to create awareness in and about our beautiful African continent, as we prepare ourselves for an inspirational mission to bring some love back to Africa. Magical melodies, rocking rhythms, sensational solos and all-round awesome people proved the night to be a phenomenal success!
Our heartfelt thanks must go out to the following people:
Our sponsors, Zula Sound Bar and Jose Cuervo, without you, this event could not have been possible!
To the bands, Riviera, Ama Ambushed, jacSharp, Plush and The Beams, you created an unparalleled atmosphere that totally rocked the house!
And last, but definitely not least, YOU guys, our supporters? Your encouragement and belief in our expedition are appreciated in ways which we cannot explain!
We are also extremely excited to announce that we will be hosting a Jamming for Africa 2!!! So keep checking your mail while we keep you in the loop regarding dates and venues, and soon we will all reunite once more to support the plight of people who are living with little.

Lynn Kristafor has been taking the DIFA team on an amazing adventure through our minds. Many people go about their daily life ignorant of the way they think and react to people, situations and other stimuli. We tend to behave instinctively, oblivious to other ways we could deal with these stimuli.
The team has been engaged in a personal development program which has been taking place over 7 sessions. In our first session we worked through a vitality questionnaire which set the framework for our further sessions. This highlighted our ?stressotype? which is an indication of the ways we react to stressful stimuli. Next we created a personal mission statement which indicated our positive qualities. In the subsequent sessions we dealt with areas in life that we value, qualities of success, attractor patterns and the roll important people play in our life, the art of communication, emotional balance and a final session consolidating all this knowledge.
For six friends who will no doubt be in a kaleidoscope of different situations, some enjoyable, some stressful, a program of this nature aids us in better dealing with ourselves, our team partners who we have in fact got to know more intimately as a result of this program, and local people we will encounter along the journey.
We owe a massive thank you to Lynn who has taken considerable time out of her busy schedule to run this program. We have been given an amazing set of skills which will undoubtedly provide invaluable particularly in testing times.
In the wise words of Martina Navratilova, ?You are only as good as you are on your worst day.?
The wait is almost over! Excitement is building in the Love to Africa universe as we count down the days to departure. As you know by now, on Feb 18th the Doing it for Africa team will set off from Cape Town on their mission to kick start the Love to Africa campaign.
But first, they have to say goodbye. So come and join us at Twist and Shout, The Old biscuit Mill, Cape Town on the 15th of Feb at 6 pm. We will say thanx to our sponsors, hug our girl friends and have a few cocktails with our mates.
The Night of a 1000 Drawings was a one night exhibition that took place on the 7th of November at the Old Biscuit Mill. This social initiative involved the selling of artwork which has been generously created and donated by the creative community of Cape Town.
